Colorado lost another player to the transfer portal as starting safety Tawfiq Byard entered his name, continuing the Buffaloes’ offseason roster shakeup, per Hayes Fawcett.

Byard finished the 2025 season with 58 solo tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception, and four pass deflections.

He is the younger brother of Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard III, who leads the NFL with six interceptions this season.

Byard arrived in Boulder ahead of the 2025 season with two years of eligibility remaining, following a two-year stint at the University of South Florida.

He saw significant action with the Bulls in 2024 before earning a starting role in the secondary under head coach Deion Sanders with Colorado. That season, he totaled 54 tackles, two sacks, and one interception.

The news comes shortly after starting wide receiver Omarion Miller announced his decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Colorado wrapped up a frustrating 2025 season with a 3-9 record, including just one win in Big 12 play. It marked the program’s eighth losing season in the last nine years, a stretch that has included multiple coaching changes and persistent roster turnover.

Despite the arrival of high-profile talent and national attention under head coach Deion Sanders, the Buffaloes struggled throughout the year. Colorado faces yet another pivotal offseason in its effort to build a competitive roster.
