Utah’s Jason Beck Seen as Key OC Candidate for Michigan Under Whittingham

NCAA Football: Utah Spring Game

Following reports that Michigan is zeroing in on longtime Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham to lead the program, Utes offensive coordinator Jason Beck could also be headed to Ann Arbor.

“Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck is expected to be the target for Kyle Whittingham’s OC job at Michigan,” per Matt Zenitz.

Zenitz also noted that Utah featured one of the most explosive offenses in the country last season, averaging 41.1 points per game, the fifth-highest mark in the nation.

A big part of that success came from dual-threat quarterback Devon Dampier, whose mobility and playmaking ability allowed Utah to vary its looks and keep opponents guessing.

Beck’s ability to maximize talent and adapt his scheme to fit his personnel is a major reason he’s being targeted for a key role at Michigan. Prior to his stint at Utah in 2025, he also coached at both Syracuse and New Mexico, adding valuable experience across multiple offensive systems.

While nothing is official yet, multiple reports indicate that he’s firmly on Whittingham’s radar as the Wolverines begin assembling a new staff.

The Utes, who narrowly missed out on a College Football Playoff berth, are set to close their season in the Las Vegas Bowl against Nebraska on Dec. 31.

Meanwhile, Michigan finished the season 9‑3, marking the program’s fifth straight winning season as the Wolverines continue to post consistent success on the field
