On Monday afternoon, Kansas State lost one of their JUCO All-American signees in the Class of 2026. That player is Iowa Western’s Andy Burburjia, a talented defensive tackle from Crystal Lake, Illinois.
Burburjia took to social media to announce the decision, saying, “After a talk with my family and with multiple changes in the staff at K-state I’ve decided to decommit! Thank you to K-state for the opportunity and as well as the support you’ve shown me. With that being said my recruitment is now 100% open!”
Burburija had a stellar season for the Reivers this fall, recording 45 total tackles, 12 sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. His performance earned him a three-star grade from 247Sports as the nation’s 51st-ranked JUCO player, ninth-ranked defensive lineman, and the third-ranked player in the state of Illinois.
For Kansas State, the loss is significant. The group is very, very thin along the defensive line with the loss of Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder, Chiddi Obiazor, and Tobi Osunsanmi to the transfer portal. They currently have just seven returning players at defensive end and defensive line, and not many with real reps.
As for where the recruitment stands, Burburija should have no shortage of suitors. He posted three sacks in the JUCO National Championship Game, a 28-10 win over Hutchinson Community College. He’s received offers from 12 total programs, including Kansas State, Washington State, South Florida, Boise State, and more.
While nothing is set in stone, one team to watch here would be Iowa State with new head coach Jimmy Rogers in town. Burburija was a Washington State commit before flipping to Kansas State on National Signing Day.
