The Oklahoma State Cowboys have found their next quarterback as former North Texas signal caller Drew Mestemaker has agreed to a two-year contract to join the Pokes, according to Pokes Report. This comes as no surprise as Mestemaker is following his head coach, Eric Morris, who took the Cowboys job just a few weeks ago.

Mestemaker is coming off a season leading North Texas to a 12-2 season that just wrapped up with a 49-47 win over San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl. The 6’4” freshman finished 27-47 for 250 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Drew Mestemaker History

On the season, the quarterback threw for 4,379 yards with 34 touchdowns to nine interceptions, while completing 68.9% of his passes. His best game of the season came in a 54-20 win over the Charlotte 49ers when he threw for 608 yards and four touchdowns.

Mestemaker won several awards this season, including the 2025 Burlsworth Trophy for the best former walk-on in the nation. He was named named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Year, selected to First Team All-American Conference and honored as Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Offensive Player of the Year.

The Austin, Texas native was an unranked prospect coming out of high school, but turned himself onto one of the most coveted quarterback transfers in college football.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a 1-11 season where the Pokes went 0-9 in Big 12 play. The Cowboys have not won a Big 12 game since the 2023 season. That change begins now with Morris leading the team and Mestemaker under center.
