Sam Leavitt Watched Film With This SEC Coach Until Midnight

NCAA Football: Arizona State at Baylor

While Sam Leavitt remains available in the transfer portal, all signs are pointing toward joining new head coach Will Stein at Kentucky. According to a report from KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, Leavitt was seen watching film with Stein until midnight on Friday night.

Now that may not necessarily mean Leavitt to Kentucky is a sure thing, but it’s difficult to place him anywhere else. If the two parties are having that much dialogue right as the portal opened up, it’s a pretty safe bet.

Still, for the top-ranked player in the transfer portal according to 247Sports, it’s a little strange to see Kentucky be the main focus. The Wildcats haven’t been much more than a middle-of-the-pack SEC team on the football field the last few years, which prompted them to move on from Mark Stoops after 13 seasons.

After firing Stoops, they turned to former Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein to lead the charge. He’s commanded some of the nation’s best offenses during his time with the Ducks, and now many expect that same offensive prowess to carry over to Kentucky. Leavitt’s dual-threat style of play pairs perfectly in Stein’s system, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the pair succeed once the talented passer gets healthy.

Leavitt is expected to command upwards of $5 million in the transfer portal this cycle and is one of the few quarterbacks who may actually get that number. If Will Stein and Kentucky are willing to foot the bill, the Wildcats could land the former Sun Devil signal caller any day now.
