TCU just picked up a solid piece in the secondary with the addition of Colorado cornerback Teon Parks. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior brings plenty of experience to Fort Worth after logging over 1,100 snaps in his college career, and he’ll have a real shot to compete for playing time right away.
Parks started his career at Illinois State, where he quietly put together some strong tape before making the jump to the Power Four. He played one season at Colorado and finished with 21 tackles and two pass breakups in eight games. The numbers don’t jump off the page, but that’s not really the point. He held his own in a starting role and showed he could handle the speed and physicality of Big 12 football.
What makes this move work for TCU is how much they need experienced guys in the secondary. The Horned Frogs were up and down on defense last season, and while they’ve got young talent coming up, there’s always room for a veteran who’s been through it before.
From Colorado’s side, this is another hit to a roster that’s seen a good amount of turnover. Parks was a starter for them, and while he wasn’t the top guy in the secondary, he played meaningful snaps and gave them consistency. That’s not easy to replace, especially in a conference where quarterbacks test you every week.
For Parks, this is a good fit. TCU’s defensive scheme should give him the freedom to play to his strengths, and he’s walking into a room that needs what he brings. It’s not the kind of portal move that gets national headlines, but it’s one that could make a real difference this fall.
