Well, the Penn State Nittany Cyclones (kidding, well, kind of) just added another player through the transfer portal, and surprise, surprise, he comes by way of Iowa State.
That player is former Cyclone safety Jeremiah Cooper, who spent the previous four seasons in Ames as the leader of the Iowa State secondary.
Cooper has been a key contributor at Iowa State for multiple seasons now, with more than 130 tackles and eight interceptions in his career. He’s more than earned a reputation as a leader in Ames, which made many fans confused earlier this offseason when he called out the Iowa State fanbase for their lack of support.
Shortly after entering the transfer portal, he posted on X that “The fans love us… Then hate us. Hope my guys ball out wherever they go.”
Flash forward a week later, and Cooper is the latest member of the Cyclones to commit to Penn State. To say there’s been a bunch of players following that path this offseason would be an understatement, as the Nittany Lions have secured a total of 21 former Cyclones in the portal. They have a total of 31 commitments overall.
While it’s tough to watch a roster get picked over from a previous coach, the move makes a ton of sense for Cooper and Campbell. Jimmy Rogers, on the other hand, will be tasked with starting as close to fresh as possible in today’s era of college football.
