Finally, the Sam Leavitt sweepstakes has come to an end, with Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers winning out and securing his services in 2026.
Leavitt, a 6-foot-2 signal caller from West Linn, Oregon, spent the previous two seasons in Tempe at Arizona State after starting his career with Michigan State.
He’s been one of the most publicized recruitments of the offseason so far, with stops at various programs and a messy exit from his former team. Conveniently enough, it sounds like a match made in heaven with his new head coach, Lane Kiffin, who threw caution to the wind and had an incredibly messy breakup of his own at Ole Miss.
Through three seasons of college football, Leavitt has completed 376 passes for 4,652 yards and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 36-11. He’s also shown some flash on the ground with 816 career rushing yards and 10 scores. His impressive performance earned him the No. 1 spot on 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings, a five-star grade, and the top signal caller in the portal.
With his commitment, LSU has now added a total of 23 commitments. Leavitt is their first five-star addition, paired with six four-stars and 13 three-stars. Interestingly enough, the LSU fanbase had started to get a little on edge without a quarterback on the roster to rally behind, but flash forward to January 12th, and the Tigers have their guy. From East Lansing to Tempe to now Baton Rouge, Sam Leavitt’s career has been a spectacle to watch.
