Marcus Freeman Applauds His Team for Avoiding BYU

NCAA Football: Fiesta Bowl-Oklahoma State at Notre Dame

Well, Marcus Freeman found a new way to sugarcoat opting out of the Pop-Tarts Bowl vs. BYU, and it is incredibly soft.

In a recent social media video taken from a clip on Peacock, Freeman sat down with his team captains and commended them for making the decision not to play the bowl game.

“You know, more than anything, you guys had to make a decision as captains, that’s probably been the biggest decision for a group of captains since I’ve been a head coach. You never know when you’re going to have to make a decision for the greater group, and you’re not gonna please everybody. You guys saw that with your decision, but as long as y’all felt convinced. That’s why I agreed with you was because of the reasons. It wasn’t an emotional decision; it was a well-thought-out one.”

While Freeman may think it’s cool and honorable, the rest of the college football world hated the move. Notre Dame was pissed off that they weren’t included in the College Football Playoff, even though they lost two games on the year to teams that reached the CFP. If you think that’s unfair, why not take a look at the resume of the team you were set to face in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, BYU?

The Cougars had the same thing happen, snubbed after losing two games to a College Football Playoff team. Get over yourself. Kalani Sitake did! There wasn’t some massive smear campaign from the veteran head coach against the CFP, whereas Freeman and Notre Dame threw a tantrum, took their ball, and went home.

Social media certainly had a lot to say about the clip, and here were some of the best reactions to Freeman’s statement.
