Lance Leipold and Kansas are interested in former Kansas State and Colorado running back Dylan Edwards, according to multiple reports. It’s a move that doesn’t only shake up the rivalry, but would lend the Jayhawks a much-needed rusher in 2026.

As of Thursday, Edwards is not signed or committed anywhere else. The three-star transfer is currently No. 10 among running backs in transfer portal, and one of just two (the other being Michigan State transfer Makhi Frazier) not already committed or signed elsewhere.

Dylan Edwards’ Path

Entering the portal back on Nov. 7, Edwards appeared in just four games due to a lingering ankle injury sustained against Iowa State in Week 0. The Derby, Kansas, product took 34 carries for 205 yards and two touchdowns before opting for a medical redshirt and hitting the transfer portal shortly thereafter.

With two years of eligibility, Kansas, which make offseason coaching news with the reintroduction of former offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki as Leipold’s assistant head coach, is seemingly pursuing Edwards to help the Jayhawks on the ground.

Out of high school, Edwards originally flipped his commitment from Kansas State to Colorado amid Deion Sanders’ first season in Boulder. Edwards tallied 867 rushing yards and six touchdowns across his first two seasons at Colorado and Kansas State.

Kansas and Kansas State both offered Edwards while the Derby High star was rushing for over 6,400 career yards and 95 touchdowns (first in 6A and top 5 in the state).

Edwards would become the third transfer running back bagged by Leipold and company in the latest cycle. Yasin Willis (Syracuse) and Jalen Dupree (Colorado State), both starting backs at their previous programs, would round out rushers room worth 2,421 total yards on the ground.

Should Leipold win Edwards, the in-state drama becomes all the more Irresistible entering Collin Klein‘s first season as head coach of Kansas State. Now 0-5 against the Wildcats in the Leipold era, Jayhawks have lost 17 consecutive meetings in football since 2009.
