Even in Big Wins, Darryn Peterson’s Injury Issues Persist

NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Kansas

Darryn Peterson is back on the court for Kansas and is sensational when he is. He’s played in just eight games this year due to a lingering hamstring issue, but when he’s out there, he’s without question the best player in college basketball.

On Friday night, he led the Jayhawks past Baylor in a blowout win, 80-62 at Allen Fieldhouse. He recorded a team-high 26 points with three assists and two rebounds, oh, and he did all of that in just 23 minutes!

Still, the injury issues are there. According to Bill Self in his post-game press conference, there was some conflict regarding Peterson’s playing time in the contest.

“When Darryn asked to come out at the 16-min mark, he was done, but I told him you’re going back in, but he asked to come right back out after he went in,” Self noted.

As frustrating as the hamstring stuff has been for Kansas and Peterson both, it’s impossible to ignore his impact on the court. The star freshman has garnered praise from just about every major voice in college basketball, and here’s what many of them had to say after the game.

That last tweet should say everything you need to know. “College basketball is ridiculously easy for Darryn Peterson.” Mind you, the Big 12 Conference is the second-best league in America other than the NBA. It doesn’t make sense just how special he is to try and quanify. Still, gotta get the hamstering right, Kansas’ ceiling is much, much higher with him on the basketball court, and they are a legit National Championship contender with him leading the charge.
