Just because the 2025 college football season is officially in the books after Monday night’s national championship game, that doesn’t mean we can’t already look ahead to 2026.
While we are still 11 months away from the Big 12 championship game, it appears that a big change is on the horizon. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Big 12 title game will be played on Friday December 4th at 7 p.m. CT.
Since the Big 12 championship game made a comeback in 2017, the game was always played on Saturday during the early time slot. While the day and time have changed, the venue will not as the game will still be played in Arlington at AT&T Stadium.
This news comes less than 12 hours prior to the Big 12 football schedule being released. However, it appears that we also were able to get a few tidbits before the schedules are officially out.
Thamel reported that there will not be a rematch of the Big 12 title game during the regular season as Texas Tech and BYU will not play one another in 2026. Thamel also reported Tuesday night that Texas Tech will face Arizona State at home in Week 7 of the 2026 season.
Obviously, we will have to see what happens Wednesday morning, but it certainly was quite a surprise to see some of these early reports. The full schedule release is set to air on ESPNU at 10 a.m. CT so be sure to tune in if you are a diehard Big 12 fan.
