As Winter Storm Fern stretches from Texas to New York, its impact is already being felt across college basketball. Several Big 12 games have shifted tip-off times this weekend as schools prepare for significant snow and travel concerns.
Below is a running list of Big 12 games affected by the storm as of Saturday morning, with updates as they are announced.
Houston vs. Texas Tech
Houston vs. Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas is a Top-15 match up in the Big 12, and one of the best match ups of the weekend in college basketball. The College GameDay crew will be in attendance for its first basketball broadcast of the year on Saturday morning.
However, the game has been moved up from a 5:30 p.m. CT tip off to a 1:00 p.m. CT start. The game will still air on ESPN.
The Lubbock, Texas forecast calls for widespread snow and sleet accumulations of 4-8 inches are expected, with upwards of one foot of snow and sleet in the far southern Texas Panhandle.
Iowa State vs. Oklahoma State
In Stillwater, Oklahoma, the Iowa State vs. Oklahoma State game is moving up one hour from a 3:00 p.m. CT tip off to 2:00 p.m. CT. General admission tickets and parking will be free for the game. And the game is still going to air on Peacock/NBC Sports Network.
Stillwater is expected 5-8 inches of snow during this storm.
Kansas vs. Kansas State
As of Saturday morning, Kansas vs. Kansas State is still scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m. CT on FOX. K-State’s men’s basketball X account posted an update Friday afternoon, asking fans to take precautions if they are coming to the game, however there was no mention of a time change.
Manhattan, Kansas is also expected to receive upwards of six inches of snow from Friday night through Saturday night.
TCU vs. Baylor
Like Kansas vs. Kansas State, Baylor’s home game against TCU is remaining with a 5:00 p.m. CT tip off in Waco on ESPN. This is essentially replacing the time slot on ESPN that was planned for Houston vs. Texas Tech, but with that game being moved up, ESPN back-filled it with TCU vs. Baylor.
Baylor is offering free admission to the game along with shuttle services to pick up fans and staff. Shuttles will begin four hours ahead of tip off at 1 p.m. from the Ferrell Center. Students shuttle will start at 3:30 p.m. from Penland Hall. Transportation will continue for up to one hour following the game.
