Following a bad loss to West Virginia on the road, which gave Kansas State their seventh loss in the last eight games, Jerome Tang provided a new reason for their lack of wins.
This time, it was the NCAA’s fault, because Tang believes there are three players who should be on his roster right now, but aren’t due to eligibility rulings.
“I haven’t figured that out yet, because they keep changing the rules on me,” Tang said on building a competitive program year in and year out. “Once they figure that out, then I can have a consistent plan. There are three guys that should be on my roster right now that are not on my roster because the rules changed.”
According to the comments and some social media speculation, most believe the three players Tang’s refering to are former Wildcat Max Jones, who in theory could have been on the roster due to his time spent in D2 basketball, international star Brice Dessert, who’s waiver wasn’t approved until too late, and Tyreek Smith, who had a very public case that was denied for eligibility.
Look, no one’s disputing the fact that the NCAA is stupid as hell. They have no clue what’s going on and no idea how to judge this era of collegiate athletics, but if you’re Jerome Tang with a Top 15 NIL budget, you can’t put things in the hands of the NCAA. That’s just not smart roster management, and until things change, it won’t be.
For now, the Wildcats will try to figure it out, but at 1-7 in conference play, things ahead don’t look great.
