Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Texas Tech has built another incredible roster in a major Big 12 sport.
This time, it’s softball, as the Red Raiders have shown up in dominating fashion on the 2026 Preseason All-Big 12 Softball team with a total of seven selections! They were joined by Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, UCF, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State, who all placed athletes on the list.
For reference, the next most athletes from one school to earn All-Big 12 honors were two, which Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, and Oklahoma State achieved.
For Texas Tech, the list of selections includes Lauren Allred (1B), Jasmyn Burns (C), Nijaree Canady (P), Mihyia Davis (OF), Alana Johnson (OF), Taylor Pannell (3B), and Kaitlyn Terry (P/UTL).
The two headliners here are NiJaree Canady and Mihyia Davis, who both were unanimous selections, and the 2025 season proved exactly why both are cornerstones of the program. Canady was nothing short of dominant in the circle, finishing the year with a 34-7 record, a 1.11 ERA, and 319 strikeouts over 240 innings. That win total tied a program record, while her ERA and strikeout numbers ranked among the best nationally.
Then there’s Davis, who set the tone offensively from Day One. The speedy centerfielder started all 68 games and set a school record with 93 hits, finishing the season with a .389 batting average and a .548 slugging percentage. She swiped 27 bases, added six triples, and even launched five home runs while tallying 28 RBIs.
For now, preseason honors are a big deal, but living up to that praise is always a task. If anyone can do it, it’ll be the Red Raiders, who should be in for a big year when things kick off this spring!
