Houston guard Kingston Flemings is no longer sneaking up on anyone, not that he ever really was. If there was any doubt before about his game, his showing against No. 16 BYU settled the score.
Flemings was the best player on the floor, and he looked comfortable doing it. He wasn’t trying to prove anything, just playing with the kind of confidence that we’ve seen all year long. He posted 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists while being a pest on the defensive side.
After the game, ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla summed it up better than most ever could. Fraschilla took to social media to rave about Flemings, making it clear this was not a one-game reaction. He pointed out that he already knew how good Flemings was from years spent in Texas, but admitted the guard is even better than expected.
“Kingston Flemings is — I knew how good he was because I lived in Texas for 19 years, but he’s better than advertised,” Fraschilla said. “I don’t know if he’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or he’s Russell Westbrook. He’s Kingston Flemings. It’s not just the talent, the speed, the skill. It’s the confidence. The ability to be coached hard. And also the fact that when he’s out there, he’s a total fan of the game. I can’t say enough good things about him. And by the way, off the court he’s a wonderful young man.”
While it’s always cool to be compared to NBA greats, he is not the next anything. He is Kingston Flemings, and that is more than enough.
