Things are getting a little dicey in Boulder, and some recent comments made by a Colorado legend certainly didn’t put out those flames.
Former Buffalo Christian Fauria has been vocally critical of Deion Sanders and the job he’s done at Colorado, and recently, emails to USA Today revealed that he threw in the towel on the program when Rick George allowed the Buffaloes to retire Shedeur Sanders‘ jersey number.
“I don’t want Colorado to fail,” Furia said. “I want them to succeed, but I find the head coach’s priorities off-putting. I officially tapped out in April 2025, when athletic director Rick George allowed the University of Colorado to retire Shedeur Sanders’ No. 2 jersey.”
“Believe me, I can root for Shedeur as a player while still calling his jersey retirement what it was: a vanity project driven by his father,” Fauria continued. “It’s this strange, twisted loyalty from Sanders die-hards, now spilling over into the NFL, that I want no part of. So I hold my nose and move on.”
That’s a pretty honest criticism of some of the spectacles taking place in Colorado over the past few years, and it didn’t stop there. He also addressed the fact that any criticism toward the Sanders family is instantly labeled as hate.
“What I find comical is that any criticism of Deion Sanders gets labeled as ‘hate,’” Fauria said. “Apparently, only blind loyalty is acceptable, no matter how self-serving or self-promoting his personality comes across. Those traits are ones I personally don’t value and never will. Ask anyone who knows me or anyone I played with at any level.”
While it may not be a story that Colorado fans want to see, it’s a pretty telling evaluation of the football program as a whole. When even former legends and alumni are calling out Deion Sanders and his program, you know things have hit the fan.
Whether or not Deion Sanders bounces back from his brutal 2025 season remains to be seen, but if one thing is certain, it’s that win or lose, people will tune in to see the show.
