Jerome Tang’s Got a Big Threat for Kansas State

NCAA Basketball: Central Florida at Kansas State

Well, it looks like it’s no more mister nice guy for Jerome Tang and Kansas State. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Tang has selected a pair of lawyers to represent him should the battle for his buyout reach court.

The two lawyers representing Tang, Tom Mars and Bennett Speyer, released a statement as well that felt a whole lot like throwing some extra gas on the fire, yet also a little bit confusing.

THE STATEMENT

“If K-State’s President and AD really think the school was embarrassed by recent events, that’s nothing compared to the embarrassment that both of them are about to experience.”

Now, that of course comes from the mouth of Tom Mars, who also provided a statement immediately following that, which kinda felt like he was walking it back.

Yes, of course, but we’ll give K-State’s President and AD a few days to regain their senses before we pull the trigger,” Mars said on if they plan to file a lawsuit against Kansas State.

Playing devil’s advocate here for both sides, if you’re Kansas State, that’s concerning. That said, if Jerome Tang and his lawyers absolutely plan to take it to court, why wait? You supposedly have every bit of information you need. What is a few days going to do for Gene Taylor if he feels the same way?

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

My prediction: neither side actually wants this to get to court. With the language of saying “we’re going to give it a few days before we move to court” out there, it feels like just giving both parties more time to negotiate. Jerome Tang will probably get somewhere north of 10M, while Kansas State saves a few M’s in their pocket for the future.

Still, only time will tell where this drama-filled saga is headed.
