Social media peril seems to find Kansas State men’s basketball in all forms.
On Friday morning, the Wildcats’ hoops page on X posted a graphic celebrating the team’s new single-season 3-point record of 262 triples and counting as this 11-17 Kansas State team traverses the Jerome Tang-less remainder of its regular season schedule. But even this couldn’t fly.

Not only were the comments littered with the usual suspects, but one of the team’s beat reporters, Derek Young of K-State Online, took to the internet to correct the school’s own social media team on the stat itself. Thing is, I’m not sure who’s wrong here: K-State or the media – for multiple reasons.
First off, Kansas State’s 267 made 3-point goals appears to be set following its 79-70 loss at Colorado, according to both, the school’s athletics website and College Basketball Reference. The claim above is that Kansas State already hit that marker with six 3-point goals at Texas Tech on Feb. 21.
Abdi Bashir Jr. currently leads the team with 67 total 3-point goals this season. The previous record of 291 triples was set during the 2022-23 season, which included 88 by Markquis Nowell.
Look, does any of this really matter? No, not in the slightest. The major takeaway here is that folks will find almost anything to scrutinize when their team is playing poorly. Until you produce wins, the internet is going use anything you disseminate online as fodder for a good, old-fashioned drubbing.
