Cornerstone Christian (San Antonio, Texas) defensive lineman Ahzan Bacote added Iowa State to his list of June visits, according to reporting by Bill Seals of Cyclone Report. He’s set to visit campus on June 19 following another Power Four stop at Mississippi State on June 12.
A rising star in the 2027 class, Bacote’s recruitment ballooned this winter following a productive junior season at Cornerstone, where he led the team with 12.0 sacks (36th in Texas, 421st nationally). Boise State, Utah and Mississippi State have all offered alongside the Cyclones.
In his reporting, Seals noted that Bacote, standing at 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds heading into his senior year of high school, already has a working relationship with Iowa State defensive line coach Jalon Bibbs and the Jimmy Rogers staff overall. The Cyclones offered Bacote in late February, and are set on welcoming the rising recruit out to Ames here in a few months in hopes of closing the deal.
Bacote, unranked by On3, Rivals or 247Sports at this time, is currently uncommitted and will likely field a handful of other Power Four offers before he graduates next spring. His recruitment won’t end with Rogers and Iowa State, but whether they can get in on the ground floor is the real question.
Bibbs and Rogers coached together at Washington State from 2023 until the staff up and planted itself at Iowa State this offseason following the departure of Matt Campbell to Penn State. His defensive line units allowed just 20.2 points per game and ranked seventh nationally on fourth down.
