The TCU Horned Frogs have landed a No. 9 seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, as announced by the selection committee on Sunday night. TCU is coming off of a 78-73 loss to Kansas in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday in Kansas City. TCU will take on No. 8 seed Ohio State on Thursday. If they win, they will play the winner of No. 1 Duke and No. 16 Siena on Saturday.
TCU 2025-26 Basketball Season
When you think about teams capable of making noise in March, TCU has quietly built a roster that no one wants to see on their side of the bracket. The Horned Frogs battled through a competitive Big 12 schedule and proved they can hang with some of the best teams in the country. With a balanced roster and plenty of experience, TCU finished the regular season at 21-11 overall and 9-9 in Big 12 play, positioning themselves as a dangerous matchup once the postseason begins.
The Frogs are led by standout forward David Punch, whose put himself on the NBA radar, averaging 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Alongside him, Xavier Edmonds has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable two-way players, providing scoring, defense, and toughness down low. He’s posting 12.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in just 22.9 minutes per game.
TCU is guided by head coach Jamie Dixon, who continues to keep the Horned Frogs competitive in one of the toughest leagues in college basketball. Now in his 10th season in Fort Worth, Dixon has turned TCU into a consistent postseason contender, and has an overall record of 197-136.
TCU NCAA Tournament History
TCU’s NCAA Tournament history is a bit of a mixed bag. They haven’t been to the tournament all that much, with just 11 trips to show. Still, they’re 7-11 in those games, with some recent success to boot. In their last three trips, TCU’s made it past the first round twice, but beyond that, there isn’t much to show.
They’ve had one trip to the Elite Eight back in 1968, other than that, it’s a few Sweet 16s, and a whole lot of first and second-round exits. This year could be different, and with the squad Jamie Dixon’s built, it could mean a lot of success awaits them.
