The Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball has found its next leader, as Wes Miller has agreed to a five-year deal to become the program’s new head coach.
Miller brings a wealth of head coaching experience to Charlotte, having most recently served as the head coach at Cincinnati. During his time with the Bearcats, Miller put together some solid teams, but never had sustained success when it mattered most. He finished his time at UC with an overall record of 100-74 and a conference record of 41-51.
Prior to his stint at Cincinnati, Miller built a strong resume at UNC Greensboro, where he enjoyed significant success. At UNCG, Miller developed one of the top mid-major programs in the country, leading the Spartans to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and consistently contending for conference titles. His ability to build and sustain a winning culture at that level made him one of the more respected coaches in the profession.
Now, Miller takes over a Charlotte program looking to gain traction and establish consistency moving forward. His track record of developing players and building competitive teams will be key as the 49ers aim to take a step forward in the coming seasons.
The hire signals a commitment from Charlotte to invest in its basketball program and bring in an experienced coach who has found at least moderate success at multiple levels of college basketball.
With a five-year deal in place, Miller will now look to begin shaping the roster and staff as he works to usher in a new era for Charlotte basketball.
