Just hours after announcing his intention to enter the NBA Draft, Milan Momcilovic is already adding some important context to his decision.
The Iowa State Cyclones standout made it clear that while he is testing the waters ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft, nothing is finalized when it comes to his future.
“I’m still deciding what to do,” Momcilovic said.
That statement aligns with what has become a common path in today’s college basketball landscape. Players frequently declare for the draft to gather feedback from NBA scouts, participate in workouts, and potentially attend the combine, all while maintaining the option to return to school. It’s a strategic move, and for a player like Momcilovic, it makes plenty of sense.
After all, his profile is intriguing.
Momcilovic is coming off a highly efficient season in which he averaged 16.9 points per game while shooting 50.6% from the field and an eye-popping 48.6% from three-point range. That kind of shooting ability, especially at his size, is exactly what NBA teams covet. If he performs well in the pre-draft process, particularly at the combine, his stock could rise quickly.
But there’s also a strong case for a return to Ames.
From a roster perspective, Iowa State is already facing significant turnover. Tamin Lipsey and Joshua Jefferson are both out of eligibility, meaning the Cyclones will be losing two foundational pieces regardless. If Momcilovic ultimately stays in the draft, Iowa State would be tasked with replacing not just production, but leadership and identity all at once. That’s a tall order.
Bringing Momcilovic back would provide continuity and give the Cyclones a proven offensive centerpiece to build around next season. On the flip side, if he receives strong NBA feedback, it may be difficult to pass up the opportunity to make the leap. For now, though, the situation remains fluid.
