After all the squabbling over Friday night football in Texas, it seems that Texas Tech and the Big 12 Conference have made a certain peace over the ordeal.
On Friday, the Red Raiders posted the following graphic on social media informing folks of two schedule updates the league is making to its home contests with Houston, now scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18, and TCU, now scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 26, on Thanksgiving.
The flames have died down, but the initial thought of Texas Tech moving its in-state, home contest with Houston from a Saturday to a Friday drove deep criticism from Texas Tech chairman and key booster Cody Campbell, who took his displeasure with Brett Yormark public over the subsequent days.
Yormark and the Big 12 are expanding what’s possible with weeknight football, and it’s only logical that extending the nights of the week you can catch the league’s contests is a viable, proven way to keep fans connected longer. The numbers back it up, too.
Now, one graphic isn’t exactly indicative of how an entire fan base or even university leadership feels about this scheduling change. It’s certainly not sitting well with Campbell and those who share his view on protecting Texas high school football.
