Joey McGuire and Texas Tech are moving in on three-star linebacker prospect Aston Whiteside, coming off his recent visit.
Whiteside, who doubles at linebacker and safety, is the No. 34 linebacker in the Class of 2027 and the No. 59 overall recruit in Texas.
Appearing in just nine games last year, Aston produced 46 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, a forced fumble, and a blocked field goal in nine games; The Lucas, Texas, native finished an entire 14-game season as a sophomore in 2024 with 104 tackles and two defensive touchdowns on two interceptions.
Gabe Brooks of 247Sports assessed Whiteside’s “promising functional athleticism” and a need for “more mass to maintain tackling consistency” to compete at the level of the Big 12 or beyond. Whiteside, entering his final high school season next fall, has recently visited Arizona, TCU and Kentucky.
Whiteside visited Texas Tech on April 12. Eight Big 12 programs have already offered Whiteside, including Baylor and Oklahoma State.
