Tuesday Takes: The Big 12’s Wild Week of Realignment Rumors, Respect and Rising Stars

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship - Houston vs Arizona

Welcome to Tuesday Takes, where I give you four takes from the Big 12. It was a jam-packed week full of exciting news, but several things caught my attention over the last few days.

Let the Realignment Rumors Flow

Normally, I am not one to bring up realignment every ten seconds or spend hours of my day seeking out the latest college football realignment rumor. You know, “My friend has a cousin, whose uncle is connected at this school said something.” Yeah, I don’t follow that kind of crap.

However, the twin brother of our own conference commissioner potentially becoming the next AD at Miami? Now that certainly has my attention. Nothing has changed as of now, but if Michael Yormark becomes the next AD at Miami, then all bets are off.

Does that mean Miami to the Big 12 is a guarantee to happen? Not necessarily, but it certainly does make things a little interesting. If Brett really wants to bring the U to the Big 12, he would potentially have an edge that no other conference commissioner out there would have.

Kirk Herbstreit Forgot About The Big 12

After the first round of the NFL Draft last week, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit was on the Scott Van Pelt SportsCenter talking about how many picks each conference had.

Of course, he mentioned the SEC, Big Ten, and even the ACC, but somehow failed to mention the fact that the Big 12 had six players taken in the first round. It’s not like the SEC had eight more first-round picks than the Big 12.

In fact, the almighty SEC had just one more first-round pick than the Big 12 did (7). As for the ACC, they had the exact same number as the Big 12. Yet, Kirk decided not to even bring up the Big 12 at all.

Some people may be surprised at that, but not me. Kirk or anyone at ESPN, for that matter, gives the Big 12 any respect at all. If given the choice between jumping off a bridge and giving the Big 12 any credit at all, those people would ask, ” Which bridge do you want me to jump off of?”

Kansas Will Win the Big 12

For those who aren’t following college baseball, first off, you should be, and secondly, Kansas looks like the best team in the conference. The Jayhawks are 17-4 in Big 12 play and are coming off a sweep of Kansas State, a respectable team.

They have a three-game lead with just nine conference games remaining. Kansas has been the most consistent team in the Big 12, and what I love about them is that they can win not just on the mound, but at the plate as well.

Not many teams are good at both hitting and pitching as Kansas has been so far. I know a lot can change, but I feel very confident in saying that the Kansas Jayhawks will be your 2026 Big 12 regular-season champions.

Texas Tech Won the Draft

As we put a bow on the 2026 NFL Draft, I wanted to point out that Texas Tech was head and shoulders above everyone else in the conference when it came to players drafted.

Texas Tech had a total of nine players selected, which was five more than the next highest (Arizona State, Arizona, and Cincinnati). That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone because the Red Raiders ran through the Big 12 like butter this past season on the field.

They by far had the most talented team in the conference, and it showed this past weekend in Pittsburgh. And don’t be shocked to see Tech once again lead the Big 12 in draft picks in 2027. And don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the Brendan Sorsby situation. I will have an article all about this later this week.
