Four-star power forward Donovan Davis (2027) has narrowed his recruitment to five schools, including the Iowa State Cyclones.
Davis has an offer from T.J. Otzelbeger in addition to four others from Iowa, Wisconsin, Marquette, and Nebraska. The Kaukauna, Wisconsin, native is expected to land with the Cyclones, per Iowa State insider Alec Busse.
The 6-foot-7 forward, the No. 2 recruit out of Wisconsin, is currently the No. 42 recruit in the country and No. 7 at his position.
Davis finished his junior season averaging 22.7 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for Freedom High School in Freedom, Wisconsin.
Iowa State understandably has a strong hand in the battle for Davis, who has two offers in hand from two major in-state programs at home.
Otzelbeger, who just signed a 10-year contract extension this offseason to remain in Ames through 2036, and the Cyclones have made five NCAA tournament appearances since he first took the job for the 2021-22 season.
Iowa and Nebraska, too, are coming off solid seasons and a heated Sweet 16 matchup favoring the Hawkeyes.
Decision time is still a ways out, but the earliest indication is that Iowa State has made serious ground with Davis and is the leading candidate among the young star’s final five college picks.
