Two Kansas Jayhawks basketball signees could soon find themselves on the international stage.
USA Basketball has invited 35 total athletes, including 18 different members of the Class of 2026. That list includes two additional Big 12 signees, Bruce Branch III (BYU), Dylan Mingo (Baylor), joining the Kansas duo at training camp.
Davion Adkins and Taylen Kinney may soon hear their names called to represent their country with USA Basketball’s Under-18 National Team at the 2026 FIBA Men’s AmeriCup from June 1-7 in Leon, Mexico. Adkins and Kinney will report to the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Thursday, May 21.
Bill Self and Kansas have a long history of watching former stars Andrew Wiggins, Frank Mason III, Joel Embiid and Gradey Dick represent multiple nations at several different FIBA events over the years.
That’s a 4 in 35 chance we’ll see at least one future Big 12 player at the AmeriCup, and whichever program they’re signed to, will get an early look at their freshman on the international stage against seven other countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.
The final team roster, led by head coach Anthony Grant, the current head coach of the Dayton Flyers and the 2020 Consensus Coach of the Year, will be trimmed to just 12 players before USA Basketball heads south of the border.
