The official visit season for college football is here.
Next month, two Big 12 coaches will host a key 2027 quarterback recruit in Justin Murphy, a four-star track and field star from North Clayton High School near Atlanta.
Murphy will visit Rich Rodriguez and the West Virginia Mountaineers on June 12, and then head south to meet with Scott Frost and the UCF Knights on June 19. The 5-foot-10, 192-pound athlete has 15 different Power Four offers, including seven in the SEC; Georgia State, Rice, UCF and West Virginia are among the warmest, per 247 Sports.
Murphy is the highest-rated recruit on both UCF and West Virginia’s 247 recruiting boards. As a junior, Murphy completed 25 passes for 444 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in three games visible on North Clayton’s MaxPreps page.
Interestingly enough, Frost and Rodriguez are really after the same thing when you think about it.
They’re both making second stops at their former programs, and two teams they were largely successful coaching during a much different era. Both, UCF and WVU, are coming off 2-7 finishes in conference play, and are again looking to rebound through the transfer portal and recruiting.
Frost and Rodriguez aren’t the hottest names in the Big 12 right now, and in fact, far from it. But they’re in the hunt for an athletic quarterback on the verge of a potential breakout senior season. That alone is worth feeling pretty darn good about.
