Just when you thought the Brendan Sorsby saga couldn’t get any messier, here comes another twist, and this one shifts the spotlight away from Texas Tech. Sorsby’s agent, Ron Slavin, is now pointing the finger squarely at Cincinnati, claiming the Bearcats knew about the quarterback’s gambling addiction for years and failed to act.
According to Slavin, the outrage aimed at Texas Tech is completely misplaced.
“If anybody should be questioned or catching heat, it should be Cincinnati… because they knew for two years and didn’t do anything,” Slavin said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Texas.
There’s some fuel to the fire for Texas Tech fans, many of whom have been making the same argument in recent weeks.
Reports have indicated Cincinnati was aware of Sorsby’s gambling behavior as early as August 2025, yet he still played the full season, putting up nearly 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and leading the Bearcats to a 7–6 record.
Meanwhile, Slavin had nothing but praise for Texas Tech, making it clear he doesn’t believe the Red Raiders did anything wrong in how they handled Sorsby after his transfer.
And that’s where this gets interesting.
For weeks, Texas Tech has been at the center of the storm, from NCAA questions to legal threats and conference backlash. But now, the narrative may be shifting, at least depending on whose side you believe.
The reality? This entire situation has turned into a finger-pointing contest between programs, agents, courts, and governing bodies, all while Sorsby himself is done with college football and setting his sights on the NFL supplemental draft, which is set to take place sometime in July.
In other words, the story isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
And if these claims gain traction, Cincinnati might not stay out of the spotlight much longer.
