Utah Lands BYU Target in the Class of 2027

NCAA Football: Las Vegas Bowl-Nebraska vs Utah

Morgan Scalley and the Utah Utes just won the commitment of a big-time 2027 recruit over rival BYU.

Corner Canyon safety Diesel Dart, the younger brother of New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, committed to Utah on Thursday ahead of his scheduled official visit to BYU to sit down with Kalani Sitake. Instead, Dart canceled his Provo visit, according to Ute Authority, and locked his commitment in with the Utes ahead of his senior year.

Like his brother, Diesel received serious in-state interest, but unlike his older brother, he elected to stay home despite major offers from Auburn, Michigan and even his brother’s alma mater, Ole Miss.

The younger Dart made seven tackles, including two solo, during Corner Canyon’s third consecutive Class 6A Utah state title victory, defeating Lone Peak 35-20, last year at Rice-Eccles Stadium, the home of the Utes in Salt Lake City. As a junior, Dart made 49 tackles, picked off two passes, caught 32 passes and carried the ball three times.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound in-state product is a “two-way contributor for one of Utah’s top high school programs that projects best as a safety at the next level with his eyes and physicality,” 247Sports analyst Andrew Ivins said. Dart is currently the No. 19 player in Utah’s Class of 2027 and the 105th athlete nationally.

No commitment is “final,” but Scalley’s history at Utah is seemingly paying off recruiting-wise as he competes with Sitake and the Cougars down the road for valuable in-state prospects. Scalley served as defensive coordinator and specifically safeties coach for Kyle Whittingham before the coach’s resignation and subsequent hire at Michigan earlier this year.
