The Holy War has taken a twist on the recruiting trail as Utah and BYU are both hoping to land the commitment of the No. 1 player in the state of Utah in the Class of 2027, Bode Sparrow. Sparrow is an elite two-way star who is considering BYU, Utah, Oklahoma and Oregon. He will make his announcement on Friday, June 26th, at 3:00 p.m. ET live on the CBS Sports YouTube Channel.
Sparrow is ranked in the 247Sports composite as a Top-100 player in the country and the No. 7 ATH in the nation. At this time, 247Sports has listed Oklahoma as his predicted landing spot, but only doing so with “medium” confidence. However, BYU recruiting expert Jeff Hansen notes that the Cougars have been pushing hard for Bode for years.
Sparrow is a two-way, two-sport athlete who could end up on either side of the ball. As a receiver, he caught 83 passes for 1,218 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. Defensively, he projects best at safety and, according to recruiting experts, has a great nose for the football. He totaled 16 interceptions over his sophomore and junior seasons.
The good news for BYU is that they got the final visit, so they got to leave the lasting impression with Sparrow, for whatever that is worth. Most experts have put Oklahoma and Oregon in the top two spots to land Sparrow, but BYU may be closing strong for his services.
Here’s what he shared following his visit to Provo.
And now, all four programs anxiously await Friday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
