Early 2027 Mock Draft Includes a Surprise for West Virginia

NCAA Basketball: Cincinnati at West Virginia

A key Ross Hodge recruit already has West Virginia on the map.

Incoming Mountaineers freshman Miles Sadler is listed No. 30 in The Athletic’s Way-too-early mock 2027 NBA Draft. The Bella Vista Prep product joins six more prospective Big 12 draft picks, including incoming Kansas freshman Tyran Stokes, going first overall.

Sam Vecenie’s mock draft includes the following order for the Big 12:

  • No. 1 | Tyran Stokes, Kansas, G
  • No. 4 | Caleb Holt, Arizona, G
  • No. 9 | Motiejus Krivas, Arizona, C
  • No. 14 | Ivan Kharchenkov, Arizona G
  • No. 16 | Bruce Branch, BYU, G
  • No. 28 | Dylan Mingo, Baylor, G
  • No. 30 | Miles Sadler, West Virginia, G

In his take, Vecenie explains that, while he doesn’t typically favor small guards, Sadler is going to be must-watch basketball next season. That buzz may translate to the league in short order.

“There’s not a better pick-and-roll playmaker in the high school class,” Vecenie said.

“He buzzes around the court and consistently gets penetration into the interior with quickness and a craft for getting opposing players on his back. He has a wonderful floater game, he’s timely with how he finishes for his size and he can pull up and score. He’s also a sharp decision-maker and tough on-ball defender. I didn’t see a better competitor or tougher player in high school last season, and I think he’s going to will West Virginia to wins next year. He might be a one-and-done because of how small he is. But there aren’t five players I would rather have in the 2026 recruiting class. For that reason, I had to rank him No. 30.”

Sadler, 5-foot-10, 165-pound West Virginia commit, is the jewel in the program’s 2026 class, including four-star center Amadou Seini.

Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Sadler blossomed at Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona, to become the No. 2 recruit in the state and the No. 3 point guard in the country. Sadler averaged 23.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game during the Chipotle Nationals EYBL tournament earlier this spring.

Sadler’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for Hodge, hoping to follow a 21-14 first try in Morgantown with the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2023.
