Details are starting to emerge as to what Kerr Kriisa is being charged with following his arrest by the FBI late last week. According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Kriisa is being charged with a $2.2 million dollar scheme that included creating fake personas, claiming his mother had cancer, his family was losing its farm and scamming individuals out of money.
So, despite some social media and online rumblings that this was tied to point shaving or anything to do with basketball, especially during his time with the Mountaineers from 2023-24, it turns out that is not the case.
Jones goes on to note that Kriisa was using fake names in an attempt to scam money.
Kerr Kriisa Career
Kriisa’s college basketball career spanned four major programs, including three current members of the Big 12. After beginning his career at Arizona, where he became one of the Pac-12’s most recognizable point guards, Kriisa transferred to West Virginia ahead of the 2023-24 season. He later spent the 2024-25 campaign at Kentucky before finishing his collegiate career at Cincinnati during the 2025-26 season.
In his lone season with the Bearcats, Kriisa averaged 5.8 points, 4.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game while serving as one of the team’s veteran leaders. Across six collegiate seasons, the Estonia native developed a reputation as a skilled passer and emotional competitor, making stops at several of college basketball’s premier programs.
The news comes just days before Kriisa was expected to participate in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) as a member of Kentucky alumni team La Familia. The organization announced that Kriisa would no longer be participating in the event.
