Welcome to Tuesday Takes, where I give you three takes from the Big 12. It was a jam-packed week full of exciting news, but several things caught my attention over the last few days.
Brendan Sorsby Will Still Be the Talk of the Town
Even though he is gone, there will be no shortage of Brendan Sorsby talk when it comes to Texas Tech. Head coach Joey McGuire takes the podium on Tuesday, and I would bet a million dollars (if I had it) that he will be asked about the whole Sorsby situation at least 100 times.
It sucks that we still have to talk about it, but people are going to want answers as to why they handled things the way they did. That’s fair to ask, but after 100 times, it does get a bit stale. Either way, I just know that Sorsby is going to be all anyone wants to talk about when it comes to Texas Tech.
Eric Morris Will Wow the Most
Out of the four new head coaches we have in the Big 12 (Collin Klein, Jimmy Rogers, Morgan Scalley, and Eric Morris), I have a feeling that Eric Morris will stick out from that group. While all four of these guys are replacing good coaches, the guy who was going to replace Mike Gundy was always going to be fascinating simply because Mike Gundy was truly one of a kind.
Morris helped put North Texas football on the map and he brought a lot of talent with him to Stillwater. Many people think he could have success in year one, and I am also in that camp.
At just 40 years young, he turned around two programs as a head coach with Incarnate Word and North Texas. There’s something special about him, and I think people are going to be very impressed with the way he handles himself.
Brett Yormark Won’t Shy Away
One of my favorite parts about Big 12 media day is listening to Brett Yormark open things up. He is not one to shy away from questions, and during this time of college athletics, there is no shortage of topics to discuss.
I would expect him to give an update on the conference, as well as his thoughts on the Protect College Sports Act pending in Congress and playoff expansion. While what he says isn’t set in stone, the one thing I respect about Brett Yormark is that he isn’t afraid to speak his mind and I can’t wait to hear what he has to say on Tuesday morning.
