Welcome to Tuesday Takes, where I give you three takes from the Big 12. It was a jam-packed week full of exciting news, but here are three things that have my attention going into week one.
Everyone Overreacted About TCU
Look, I get it. TCU’s loss to North Carolina in Ireland was absolutely embarrassing. They made countless mistakes and beat themselves time and time again. Starting quarterback Jaden Craig didn’t look good, but he also didn’t have a ton of help between drops and penalties.
Is North Carolina better than they were a year ago? Sure, but they still aren’t a good football team in my eyes. North Carolina didn’t beat TCU because TCU beat TCU, if that makes sense. It was the first game of the season, everyone was watching, and it was played overseas in bad field conditions. I am not making excuses, but if that game was played in Fort Worth, it likely would’ve been a different outcome. But for now, everyone needs to take a deep breath because there’s still a lot of football left.
The Big 12 Made the Right Call
Since my Tuesday Takes from last week, the Big 12 unanimously agreed to ban professionals from returning in all sports. I took the same stance prior to the agreement last week.
To me, it’s simple. NFL players have no business coming to play college football. Once you enter your name to go to the NFL, there’s no coming back. I understand why certain players would want to entertain the idea due to money, but at some point, enough is enough with this garbage. You made the decision to leave, or your time ran out. Either way, you left, and you should be done.
The Conference Will Win Two of the Three Big Non-Conference Games
While most of the Big 12 is playing cupcakes this weekend, three games are very important for the conference. Those three are Colorado at Georgia Tech, Baylor at Auburn (neutral site), and Boston College at Cincinnati.
After TCU’s loss to North Carolina last weekend, it’s important that the Big 12 bounces back by taking at least one or two of these three games. Colorado and Baylor are touchdown underdogs while Cincy is actually favored to win. While I do expect the Bearcats to win, I also believe that either Colorado or Baylor will pull off the upset this week to give the conference two big-time wins.
