Markquis Nowell Explains Why He Loves Bob Huggins

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament East Regional-Michigan State vs Kansas State

While the news of Bob Huggins’ resignation as head basketball coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers isn’t surprising given the circumstances of Huggins’ offseason choices, the end of the Huggins era in Morgantown has fans, players, and even rivals sharing their favorite memories and interactions with coach Huggins.

The most recent player to share memories of Bob Huggins is former Kansas State point guard, Markquis Nowell, who shared an interaction with Huggins on Twitter following the last matchup between West Virginia and K-State.

Markquis Nowell and K-State bookended their 2022-23 regular season with games against Huggins and West Virginia where Nowell proved to be a tough task to handle. The New York native put up a stat line of 23 points, 10 assists, and seven steals against West Virginia in the Wildcats’ home opener on December 31st where Nowell and K-State rallied back to an 82-76 overtime win.

In the game Nowell is referring to in his tweet, Huggins took down the Wildcats 89-81 on March 4th with Nowell going for 24 points, eight assists, and six steals. While Bob Huggins is officially out as the head basketball coach at West Virginia, he ended his career as one of the most polarizing and interesting coaches in the history of college basketball.
