ESPN’s Paul Finebaum Calls Group of Five Teams ‘Sacrificial Lambs’
While it’s no secret that ESPN’s Paul Finebaum is one of the SEC’s biggest fanboys, his comments on Monday’s episode of Always College Football added even more bias for the league.
Finebaum discussed the future college football playoff model and referred to the inclusion of Group of Five teams in the field as, “sacrificial lambs.”
“There is no way they can compete,” Finebaum said. “They are simply going to be sacrificial lambs. I felt bad for Liberty this year. They had a great season and it seemed like it got torched on that final game.”
While Paul Finebaum realistically has no say in the future college football playoff model’s construction, that didn’t stop him from letting others know how to do things the right way.
“Knowing these commissioners, they try to be collegial,” Finebaum said. “I wouldn’t be. You wouldn’t be. But that’s why we’re in the fields that we’re in and they are able to get people to coalesce in a room around them like that.”
Despite the fact that the college football playoff will feature at least one representative from the Group of Five in the upcoming seasons, Finebaum was critically of the model and thinks that it is a ridiculous notion. Still, the decision remains unchanged and fans of college football will get to see one G5 team take on teams from the Power 5 in the near future.
