Kevin Young and the BYU Cougars welcomed a massive prospect in the Class of 2025 to campus on Saturday, playing host to the nation’s top-ranked prospect.
Five-star small forward A.J. Dybantsa arrived in Provo for a weekend visit, including a stop at the legendary LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Eagerly awaiting Dybantsa and Coach Young was former Cougar and NFL star Puka Nacua, who returned to LaVell Edwards Stadium during his bye week.
Coming out of Utah Prep in the Class of 2025, Dybantsa is listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s top-ranked player. The 6-foot-9 forward is listed as the top player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of Utah.
“After my unofficial visit and conversations with Coach [Kevin Young], he can bring me in and play me like a pro with his knowledge of the NBA with the Suns and taking it to BYU,” Dybantsa said about BYU in a recent interview. “He also mentioned he coached Joel Embiid. He knows what he’s talking about. It’s a big campus and facility.”
While BYU still has to fend off some incredible programs working to impress Dybantsa, the group appears to be the front-runner in the recruitment. In a recent article from On3’s Jamie Shaw, the Cougars were listed as a predictor of landing the Utah Prep athlete with a score of 30% confidence.
