How Do Fans Feel About Arizona’s New Basketball Court?

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament West Regional-Arizona vs Clemson

Arizona basketball has a new look inside McKale Center, and the response is already stirring debate among fans.

On Tuesday, Arizona Athletics revealed the program’s updated home court design, featuring the return of the program’s retro cactus logo.

Set against a silhouette of the Sonoran Desert and a deep-red sunset, the cactus anchors a layout selected by fans during a vote held earlier this spring. The familiar Block A remains in place but has been slightly downsized to balance the new visuals across center court.

This update marks the first major redesign since 2013 and brings back the cactus for the first time since it was removed in 2009. It’s a move that blends nostalgia with a fresh aesthetic, timed perfectly as Arizona prepares for its first basketball season as a member of the Big 12 Conference.

The court will make its in-game debut during the Red-Blue Showcase on October 3. Fans will get an early glimpse during Arizona Volleyball’s Red-Blue scrimmage on August 16, when the new court is used publicly for the first time.

Initial reactions to the design have been split. Some fans have praised the return of the cactus and its connection to the program’s past. Others feel the layout is overly busy or diverges too far from Arizona’s traditional court style. Regardless of personal taste, the rollout has generated buzz nationally, with outlets like The Field of 68 and College Basketball Report weighing in positively on social media.

Arizona’s brand carries national weight, and this redesign aims to build continuity between eras. With Big 12 basketball widely viewed as the toughest conference in the country, the Wildcats will need every advantage they can get. A bold new home floor is one way to make a statement.
