Arizona State head basketball coach Bobby Hurley sounds like a man nearing the end of the line with his current program, and it’s not very hard to see why.
After losing a back-and-forth game at home to Colorado, Hurley sounded about as angry as can be, and in typical Bobby Hurley fashion, his answers went viral for being incredibly out of pocket.
The first came in response to the massive rebounding mismatch in the contest in which Colorado won 34-24. It was a bit of a snappy response from the veteran head coach, which made the air in the room feel a little thicker.
“Thanks for pointing that out,” Hurley said on ASU being dead last in the Big 12 in rebounding rate. “Are you kidding me? I just talked about not being able to rebound the ball, didn’t I just say that? We got seven games left, so if we can’t rebound by now, then chances are we’re not going to be able to rebound.”
Then, it was a brutally honest assessment: “We stink on defense.”
Now is Hurley wrong? Honestly, no. The tone struck a certain chord with fans, which prompted some notable responses, but for all intents and purposes, he’s right. The frustration continues to mount for ASU, and at the end of the season, it’s safe to assume the Sun Devils may go in a new direction with the end of Hurley’s contract just around the corner.
