Former Oklahoma State assistant coach Doug Gottlieb grabbed a ton of headlines yesterday, with an explosive rant in his post-game interview.
Gottlieb, a two-year head coach at Green Bay, has his team performing significantly better than in previous years, with an overall record of 15-13; however, last night’s loss to Milwaukee made the wheels fall off the wagon.
After receiving a technical foul in the contest, Gottlieb said, “I need the league to explain to me why I got a technical foul when I did not curse, and I was not demonstrative.” Then, later in the rant, it all fell apart with Gottlieb shouting, “IT’S THE EXACT SAME F****** PLAY!”
Well, it’s not exactly the most surprising thing to hear, but it is pretty funny to watch. Gottlieb and his team finished dead last in the Horizon League in 2024-25 with an overall record of 4-28 and 2-18 in conference play. This year, they’ve shown some life, sitting tied for third place behind Wright State and Oakland.
It may not be the only reason for Green Bay’s success, but a large part of their bounce-back has to be related to Gottlieb finally stepping away from his daily radio show. Maintaining a day job while attempting to lead a College Basketball program just doesn’t work, especially at this level.
Still, it was pretty funny to see Gottlieb get so worked up.
