Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker is quickly forcing his way into the national conversation.
Following another huge performance in the Cowboys’ 41-24 road win over West Virginia on Saturday, Mestemaker’s Heisman Trophy odds have made a significant jump, moving from 66/1 to 33/1. And perhaps more notable for Big 12 fans: Mestemaker now has the best Heisman odds of any player in the conference.
Mestemaker completed 20-of-27 passes for a season-high 389 yards, three touchdowns and one interception as Oklahoma State erased an early deficit and pulled away from West Virginia in Morgantown.
The performance continued what has been a remarkable turnaround for an Oklahoma State program that entered the season with plenty of questions under first-year head coach Eric Morris.
Mestemaker followed Morris from North Texas after leading the nation with 4,379 passing yards in 2025 while throwing 34 touchdowns. He also won the Burlsworth Trophy as the nation’s top player who began his career as a walk-on.
Now he’s starting to generate some legitimate national buzz in Stillwater.
Heisman Odds
Mestemaker was one of the biggest risers in the latest Heisman odds, jumping from 66/1 to 33/1. Jeremiah Smith moved from 8/1 to 3/1 to become the new favorite, while Kamario Taylor improved from 11/1 to 5/1 and Jaden Baugh went from off the board to 12/1.
Meanwhile, several notable quarterbacks went the opposite direction, including Trinidad Chambliss, Arch Manning and TCU quarterback Josh Hoover.
Mestemaker is one of only two Big 12 players currently listed on the board, joining BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who sits at 75/1.
For Mestemaker, there’s still a long way to go before the Heisman conversation gets serious. But his candidacy has something it didn’t have a couple of weeks ago: a signature road performance in conference play and an Oklahoma State team that suddenly looks capable of making noise in the Big 12 race.
If both continue, Mestemaker’s name isn’t going away anytime soon.
