Marcus Adams Jr. is leaving Arizona State for his fourth school.
The former four-star Kansas commit is leaving Tempe with two years of eligibility after just one season, according to a report by On3’s Joe Tipton on Thursday. The former BYU and Cal State Northridge forward averaged 3.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists in 14 games this season as a Sun Devil.
Adams hits the portal following the end of the Bobby Hurley era at Arizona State, which finished 17-16 and 11th in the Big 12 following a 49-point loss to Iowa State – the worst loss in tournament history – in the second round of last week’s Big 12 tournament in Kansas City, Missouri.
It’s the third consecutive year Arizona State has missed the NCAA Tournament. With Hurley out, the coaching search has been heating up with a handful of candidates in the mix.
Last year, Adams raised his profile in the Big West averaging 16.1 points per game and finishing his redshirt freshman season shooting 52.6% from the floor. He’d average around just 11 minutes per game at Arizona State and found himself largely sidelined since January with a reported leg injury.
With two years of ball left, Adams could certainly rebound wherever he ends up next; There’s certainly a handful of Big 12 programs that’d give him a look to fill out the bench. If Adams doesn’t stick around the league, he could potentially jump back to a mid-major or another growing Power Four school.
