Jimmy Rogers just landed his biggest recruiting victory since taking over at Iowa State.
247Sports composite four-star wide receiver Chuck Alexander Jr. announced his commitment to the Cyclones on Friday, flipping his pledge from Louisville and giving Iowa State its highest-rated commitment of the Rogers era. The Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow standout is regarded as one of the top wide receivers in the 2027 recruiting class and becomes another significant recruiting win for a Cyclone staff that continues to build momentum on the trail.
Alexander, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs approximately 190 pounds, chose Iowa State over an impressive offer list that included Kentucky, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Carolina, West Virginia and more than two dozen FBS programs. His commitment came after a strong impression during a June visit to Ames, ultimately leading him to back away from his previous commitment to Louisville.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Alexander is a four-star prospect, ranking among the nation’s top wide receivers in the 2027 cycle. That makes him the highest-rated high school commitment Iowa State has secured since Rogers became head coach following the departure of Matt Campbell.
On the field, Alexander has shown the ability to be a true outside playmaker. During his junior season at Withrow, he hauled in 21 receptions for 369 yards and six touchdowns while earning First Team All-Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference (CMAC) Red Division honors. His combination of size, body control and catch radius gives Iowa State another intriguing weapon for the future.
The addition also continues an encouraging recruiting trend for Rogers. After inheriting a difficult situation following the coaching transition, the new staff has steadily rebuilt momentum, particularly in the 2027 class. Alexander becomes Iowa State’s fourth wide receiver commitment in the cycle, highlighting the emphasis Rogers and his staff have placed on upgrading offensive skill talent.
Perhaps even more impressive is how Iowa State won this recruitment. Flipping a four-star prospect away from an ACC program demonstrates the Cyclones can compete for nationally recruited talent, not simply identify under-the-radar prospects. That’s been a hallmark of Iowa State’s rise over the past decade, and Rogers appears intent on building upon that foundation.
Recruiting rankings are never the final word on a player’s career, but landing prospects with Alexander’s profile raises the ceiling of an entire class.
