One of my favorite parts of August is the seemingly endless barrage of tape from fall camp.
Your favorite team back on the field: helmets, pads, familiar faces and exciting newcomers. It’s that first true taste of football magic before the season actually kicks off and all of your dreams are destroyed like a tower of cards.
But Oklahoma State sophomore quarterback Drew Mestemaker might just the be real deal. A new clip emerged on Friday of Mestemaker dropping beauty into the hands of 5-foot-11 wide receiver Terrence Lewis, who, like Mestemaker, followed the train out of North Texas and into Stillwater, Oklahoma, alongside Eric Morris for this new project.
Mestemaker hasn’t played a single snap yet for the Cowboys, but his name is being tossed around a lot between Big 12 and national media circles alike. The Austin, Texas, native threw for 4,379 yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a freshman and the American Conference’s 2025 Offensive Player of the Year. The Athletic tapped the UNT transfer at sixth overall in their preseason college football quarterback rankings system.
Oklahoma State has a new quarterback, head coach and a largely overhauled roster. After the season the Cowboys had a year ago, the sky’s the limit for a new arm to revolutionize the offense, led by coordinator former UNT OC Sean Brophy, who also works as the team’s quarterbacks coach. The hype is strong for a new quarterback, and he’ll certainly face tougher defenses in the Big 12, but sit down and watch this guy’s tape and you’ll agree he’s capable of a lot with the football in his hands.
