Week 2 of the college football season is in the books. Week 3 is on the verge of getting underway, and we already have to deal with ESPN personalities promoting their favorite conference: The SEC. Now, this is nothing new. Heck this is part of the reason that Heartland College Sports exists. I began this outlet in 2014 because I was exhausted by the never-ending SEC hype machine that ESPN had turned into. But none of us could have imagined just how bad it would get over a decade later. Alas, here we are.
And now, it’s two notable ESPN college football personalities pushing the same non-sense that I thought might wait until at least Week 5 or 6.
First, check out this headline I stumbled upon on ESPN. And it came when I went to the West Virginia football page. They’re playing UVA this weekend. There’s nothing SEC to talk about in this game, or tied to WVU. But hey, when you’re in full-blown propaganda push, you need to get it in front of as many eye balls as possible.

Really? I know the top of the Big Ten may not be what many expected, with Ohio State blowing a game to Texas, and Oregon losing at Oklahoma State, but can we get at least one month into the season before we start debating whether or not the SEC will get half of the teams into the 12-team CFP? Is that too much to ask? Also, could you make the case for the Big 12 having two teams? I guess, at this point. But the SEC doesn’t want to discuss that. It’s all SEC, all the time.
Then, there was this from Peter Burns.
You think ESPN talking heads were ever sharing the SEC creampuff schedule they always had in mid-November? Now to their credit, they don’t have that any more after adding a ninth conference game. But still, for the SEC fan boys to start blasting the non-conference schedule of the Big Ten, when the SEC was notorious for scheduling easy non-conference games to goose the win-loss record.
So for ESPN, it really is just another day of the week that ends in Y. But we will keep calling it out.
