There has been no shortage of changes in Boulder since Deion Sanders took over three years ago. Between coaches and players, the Colorado football program seems like a revolving door.
Don’t believe me? Just look at their offense over the years. Going into year four, Deion is on his third different offensive coordinator, and it seems like every single season, they replace their entire offense.
Fixes on Offense?
One of the toughest things about that is the offensive line up front. Typically, it takes time for a unit to gel and find its footing. But when you have the turnover rate that Colorado has had over the years, it becomes increasingly difficult to get everyone on the same page.
But when you throw new coaches and new players together every single season, it becomes next to impossible to have any stability whatsoever. But it appears that new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion isn’t worried about his guys up front. In fact, he spoke very highly of them. Some may say, a bit too highly.
“Our O-line is better than what we had at Texas, other than we don’t have Kelvin Banks,” Marion said to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, referencing the ninth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. “Offensive-line-wise, we’re better than we were at Texas. We’re bigger. We’re more physical. This will be the best offensive line I’ve ever had,” Marion boldly declared.
Now keep in mind that Brennan’s lone season at Texas was back in 2022, when they finished 8-4 under Steve Sarkisian. This was the point when Texas wasn’t quite what they are today.
I understand that Marion is well respected and isn’t afraid to speak his mind, but this seems like a bit of a stretch to me, at least for now. To his credit, Colorado has brought in some good talent on paper with guys like Bo Hughley (Georgia), Sean Kinney (ULL), Jose Soto (Sac State), and Demetrius Hunter (Houston).
Over the last few years, Colorado has had one of the worst offensive lines in the country. They haven’t done a good job in the run game, and their pass protection has left a lot to be desired.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the confidence from Coach Marion, but until I see it on the field, I am not buying the hype. And he’s got every chance to prove everyone wrong this season, and with that schedule of theirs, it could speak volumes if he does.
