West Virginia Mountaineers set sights on JUCO DT Val Martin

On Thursday night, I got the chance to speak with defensive tackle Val Martin (6’2”, 305 lbs) out of Council Bluffs, Iowa (Iowa Western C.C.). As of right now, Martin holds a total of four offers, including one from West Virginia. Here is my chat with Val about his recruitment and it appears that the Mountaineers will battle it out along with a few others for his signature. Who are they? Find out right here in this interview.
Heartland College Sports: Who all has offered you up to this point?
Martin: “Buffalo, Washington State, West Virginia and FAU.”
HCS: Do you have a top list of schools?
Martin: “I don’t. My recruitment is still ongoing. I have some more schools still knocking.”
HCS: So which schools have you visited so far and which schools will you be visiting in the coming weeks?
Martin: “I visited Buffalo in December and I go to FAU this weekend. Washington State next weekend and then West Virginia the weekend after that.”
HCS: What has been the biggest surprise in your recruitment? Has there been a memorable moment that really stuck out to you?
Martin: “Yes! I started off with a lot of small schools. I thought at one point in time I was going to have to settle for a school. I blew up out of nowhere and I’m just relieved and excited to know I’m wanted.”
HCS: When do you plan on announcing your commitment?
Martin: “Signing day or signing day week.”
