Kansas is a projected No. 1 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, with four other Big 12 teams making the 68-team field, according to CBSSports.com’s Jerry Palm.
Last year the Big 12 sent seven teams to the NCAA Tournament, with Baylor winning the national championship over Gonzaga.
This year’s NCAA Tournament will end at Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans April 2 and 4.
Palm projects Kansas as the No. 3 overall seed and as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region. In Palm’s projections, the Jayhawks would face Campbell in the first round.
Texas, under new head coach Chris Beard, is projected as a No. 2 seed in the South Region. Palm projects that Texas would face Southern Utah in the first round.
Baylor, the defending national champion, emerged as a No. 3 seed in the West Region, where the Bears would face a rematch with Georgia State. The Panthers defeated the Bears in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. The Panthers upset the Bears in the game.
Texas Tech is a projected No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region. The Red Raiders would face Syracuse in the first round.
Palm had West Virginia as a No. 10 seed and facing USC in the first round in the East Region. Mountaineers head coach Bob Huggins won his 900th career game in the first round of last year’s tournament.
Oklahoma, which reached the NCAA Tournament last season, was one of Palm’s ‘First Four Out’ in the projected field. Oklahoma State, which went to the NCAA Tournament last season, found out on Wednesday that it was banned from the 2022 Tournament by the NCAA.
